Better picture of my birthday surprises - a sketch from David López and the Bowen Designs mini bust. So awesome.
I had a birthday yesterday. It was lovely. My department threw me a little birthday party lunch and my partner in crime baked me a giant birthday cookie!

When they’d asked me last week what I’d like, I was half-joking when I said they should all draw me an orca. They weren’t, though.

The front of the giant homemade card read “It’s no fluke…” and the folded-out one at the top might be the greatest birthday card ever, signed by everyone. I even got the sweetest card signed by my old department.
When I got home, the Mr. had a surprise for me. He handed me an envelope but wouldn’t let me look at who it was from, and inside…

… a GORGEOUS sketch straight from the fabulous David Lopez, who’s been a wonderful friend of ours since I first cosplayed Mockingbird. I cannot even tell you how stunning the sketch is in person; I’ll try to scan it when I can. And I’m also finally in possession of the Bowen mini bust thanks to my wonderful fiancé - I’d only been waiting for her to exist in three dimensional form outside of Heroclix for years.
So it was a pretty good day.
Heroes Alliance GA was invited to Regal Atlantic Station last night for a whole bunch of Avengers screenings. Needless to say, it was a blast. Since Ms. Marvel is the highest profile Avenger in my wardrobe, out she came!
I previously posted about a new halfmoon betta (Apollo), but unfortunately, despite my care in doing everything correctly for a new fish, he passed away after six days of not eating. It was a shame, but I’m thinking he may not have been healthy to start with despite his looks.
After fully preparing the tank all over again I fell in love with a stunning crowntail. As soon as he was added to the exhibit (holy crap, I work too much) tank he chased the bubbles made by the filter, explored a bit, flared a bit, and ate food not even fifteen minutes later. I came in this morning to see he’d made a giant bubble nest. He’s extremely responsive and curious, and basically everything poor little Apollo wasn’t.
His name is Asimov. It’s the sideburns.
Some of my work is on display at the Academy Theatre in Atlanta until later tomorrow! This is my hopeful face.
I wasn’t planning on finding Betta Ray Bill’s successor so soon, but I met this little guy by chance yesterday and fell in love. Meet Apollo! In keeping with our cosmic fish names, he’s a half moon betta named after both Lee Adama and the space program. He’s also about a third the size of Betta Ray Bill at the moment. So tiny!
My little buddy Betta Ray Bill passed away today after two and a half years. He lived in a heated, filtered five gallon mansion and had everything his little fishy brain could dream of, but it was still very sad to find him tonight. He was the best fish.
After seeing his empty tank this morning it was nice to see him pop up on my dash. A lot of people would probably roll their eyes over someone being upset about losing “just a fish”, but he was a lot more than that (and those people have probably never cared for anything). I got him not long after I moved to a new country and he distracted me from becoming overwhelmed by allowing me to take such care of his little life over the last couple of years, and he exhibited such personality. I did the dishes this morning without him watching me and it was a lot less fun. I’ll miss the little guy.
My little buddy Betta Ray Bill passed away today after two and a half years. I would come home from working alongside thousands of incredible fish from all over the world and tell him he was still the greatest of them all.
On Sunday Heroes Alliance Georgia had its first event of the year, visiting medically fragile children for an organisation’s Valentine’s party. I went as Supergirl and had a blast; the kids were a joy to be around and their smiles were infectious. Making them smile is the best feeling in the world.
