Make no mistake. Mandy gets. Shit. Done.
Would not have been able to do it without Mandy, the holder of all knowledge (Tony) to my fish-out-of-water cluelessness (Steve).

Better picture of my birthday surprises - a sketch from David López and the Bowen Designs mini bust. So awesome.
I had a birthday yesterday. It was lovely. My department threw me a little birthday party lunch and my partner in crime baked me a giant birthday cookie!

When they’d asked me last week what I’d like, I was half-joking when I said they should all draw me an orca. They weren’t, though.

The front of the giant homemade card read “It’s no fluke…” and the folded-out one at the top might be the greatest birthday card ever, signed by everyone. I even got the sweetest card signed by my old department.
When I got home, the Mr. had a surprise for me. He handed me an envelope but wouldn’t let me look at who it was from, and inside…

… a GORGEOUS sketch straight from the fabulous David Lopez, who’s been a wonderful friend of ours since I first cosplayed Mockingbird. I cannot even tell you how stunning the sketch is in person; I’ll try to scan it when I can. And I’m also finally in possession of the Bowen mini bust thanks to my wonderful fiancé - I’d only been waiting for her to exist in three dimensional form outside of Heroclix for years.
So it was a pretty good day.

Hi Tumblr comics fans,
Let’s accomplish some social good today. The organization One Million Moms, who describe themselves as “a network of Christian mothers and grandmothers taking a stand for our children who are exploited by the entertainment industry”, have recently released a statement…
Georgia Aquarium is deeply saddened to announce the loss of its beluga whale calf born Friday evening to 17-year-old Maris, a first-time mother.
“This is an extremely sad day for the Georgia Aquarium family. Over the past few days, our veterinary and animal care teams have been giving around-the-clock care to Maris and her calf,” said Dr. Gregory Bossart, senior vice president and chief veterinary officer. “We initially became concerned when the calf was born and needed assistance from the divers to bring it to the surface to breathe. The calf was significantly underweight and appeared to have a significant number of medical issues. Based on our knowledge of healthy calves, we knew this calf would probably not survive, but our hearts gave us hope that she might be able to pull through. Our primary concern now is the well-being of Maris.”
“From her challenging birth to the difficulties she experienced the days following, it is clear that it is unlikely the calf would have survived as long as she did had it not been for the incredible care our dedicated team provided,” added Bossart.
